HISTORY
The record of the SKYCABLERIDES founders, Cornelis Vermolen and Harry van den Oord in the Amusement Ride Industry, goes back to the early seventies. A large diversity of mobile amusement rides was common on fairgrounds those days and a large number of ride manufacturers was specialised in this field. The independent family enterprises of the founders were operating in the field of mobile rides and their offspring is still doing today. In the eighties, existing theme parks changed their course towards the installation of huge thrill rides, followed by a boom of new parks jumping on the same idea. Since then, touring carnival fairs lost ground, though still managed to continue on a significant scale. Some mobile ride manufacturers switched to park rides, others terminated their activities.
Since the beginning of the new millennium, new trends and developments took place in the leisure industry, in particular we have seen the rise of popular outdoor events like concerts and dance festivals, a larger diversity of theme parks less building on the conventional carnival formula and the uprising of standalone touristic landmarks like ferris wheels, mostly linked to investment programs of a metropolis.
The founders recognised these trends and envisioned the idea to redesign conventional cable car technology to a format which has the potential to cope with all of the above emerging application areas. SKYCABLERIDES today has a program of cable gondola rides with a span ranging between 200 and 1000m, both in the conventional style using an underground anchoring, as well as a new patented, free-standing system which does not need to penetrate the soil.

SKYCABLERIDES organisation has two main activities which are complementary. The Operations division is engaged in the management of cable gondola rides at events, parks and various other touristic locations. The teams are dealing with the preparation, transportation, installation and daily operation of the rides. Operations has a wide network of certified partners which support in the field of maintenance and inspections.
The Projects division is organised in a matrix structure where various disciplines and external partners are involved in the design and engineering of new cable rides, tailor made to client expectations. Projects is also dealing with future programs, innovations and the continuous improvement of the rides based on feedback from clients and the Operations division. This tandem function of Projects and Operations is an unique strength and enables SKYCABLERIDES to maintain its lead in the field of innovations.
